Levitating Superconductor On Magnetic Möbius Strip

July 1, 2013

Möbius strips: hands down my second favorite kind of strip behind stripteases. This is a video of Andy from The Royal Institution of Great Britain showing off a levitating superconductor riding a Möbius strip made out of 2,000 individual magnets. Whey the hell we can't have hoverboard tracks like this is beyond me, but I suspect it has something to do with the government trying to keep us down. You think the government really wants to see us happy? WRONG. That's why they make us pay taxes -- to keep us poor and miserable. I bet you the last time I was truly happy I still wasn't tall enough to ride all the rides at Six Flags.

Hit the jump for the video, but skip to around 5:00 if you don't care about science and just want to see the little train speeding around.

Thanks to carey, who told me if we don't have hovercars by 2020 she's abandoning earth and blasting off into space WHERE EVERYTHING FLOATS. Solid idea.

The diagram at 3:35 doesn't abide the Right-hand rule. The current would go the other way....I mean...not that I would know or anything.

  • Brian

His accent and the coolness of the science involved made it so that I almost missed his speech impediment.

    What about the bosseyedness?

Sort of surprised you didn't link to this http://geekologie.com/2011/... in the article.

So when did Micheal Phelps start speaking with a British accent and learn so much science?

anyone else imediately think of F-Zero?

  • da1nonlysage

    F-Zero RC racetrack please!!

Just have to keep trying different materials. That's where I would go.

  • Between this and the neverwet spray, scientist just not giving a fuck about doing seemingly impossible badass shit.
