Another Day, Another 'Holographic' Display System

leia-display-system-demo.jpg

This is a video demo of the Leia Display System. Like other similar systems being developed, it projects video on a wall of barely visible fog to give the illusion of a hologram floating in space. That's also why they called it the Leia, after Princess Leia. Granted i don't know that for a fact, but assuming takes way less effort than fact checking. Back me up, every local news team! "Whatever, JW, we're reliable." I rest my case.

Hit the jump for a couple of demo videos.

Thanks to grastroskopia, who's convinced the future is now despite zero sign of hoverboards or reasonably priced jetpacks.

  • Garrett Spicer

Thats a 2d image on mist.
    Not impressed.

Especially when someone walks in front of the tv and shit gets blurry. Would rather have a projector and glass.

Eh cool party trick for clubs. Can I have one that displays 3 dimensional images?

Excellent article you have here. I just love to tinker with images. I am
very thankful that I stumbled upon this site. Keep posting more articles like

Another day, another blatant FogScreen ripoff... Heliodisplay, Displair,
etc etc. Wonder when this company will be sued, last time I checked the
original patents are still in effect.

Would be nice to see something new, for a change.

The interactive part is just awesome. Great game ideas may include popping bubbles or Fruit Ninja -- I would love to actually use a sword for that game. >:D

It may not be good enough for TV watching, but I think if they focus this as a way for people to communicate with each other, it would be cool to receive or make a holographic phone call.

So basically it's just like the "hologram" from Seaquest DSV

  • Ry Keener

Sorry, the reference you are referring to is outdated, please try again.

  • WTFITSAY

This isn't technically a 'hologram' machine. It's still projecting a 2D image onto something. I'm still waiting for shit that will blow my mind.

  • BMan56

    21st century is now!

    This is not movie trick!

This is neat, but a hologram is a 3D image, not a 2D image projected on some mist.

It's like a less useful TV

  • Leonidas Argidisouvlaki

As long as it's not movie trick, I'm okay with it.

  • JennWillo

I cannot keep a straight face with the music.

  • SpiritWalker76

I see great porn uses for this... I mean. Nevermind.

  • Bertw192

Did I miss something? Who is "JW"? Do we have an impostor?

  • Leonidas Argidisouvlaki

It's a joke about the unreliability of fact-checking among news services. Don't be a silly boy.

  • Bertw192

Hmmm... I guess I need my jokes to be a little more on the nose. I'm off to Break.com
