Pew Pew!: Laser Gun Burning A Drone Out Of The Sky

navy-laser-shooting-drone.jpg

This is a video of the Navy's latest powerful burning laser gun targeting an an autonomous drone plane then BURNING IT OUT OF THE SKY. It's a feel-good video. Obviously, the secret to defeating autonomous robots in the future is going to be lasers. Of course this laser gun is probably autonomous too so in reality we've already been defeated.

Hit the jump for the video which may or may not include a crappy CG mockup as well (it does!).

Thanks to Jacob, who knocks drones out of the sky the old fashioned way: praying to Zeus and sacrificing lambs or whatever to win his good graces.

There are Comments.
  • Laser guns are the perfect drone buster. But the drones might protect themselves with a super-reflecting surface. But soon you will have drones carrying laser.guns. Or micro-wave guns.

  • Couldn't you paint the drone in reflective paint?

  • Kevin

At first, i thought that was a Star Destroyer.

What if a Plane has a mirror polish, wouldn't the laser bounce off?

  • Guest

What about cleverly arranged fiber optics embedded in the mirror(or on their own) that would lead the laser light away?

  • flyingmonkey456

No mirror is perfect. It would still super-heat and melt.

  • Billy Rocka

    "Enemy destroyed your UAV."

  • NotJoe

Why are we already defeated? The only way to beat the machines is to turn them against each other, which is exactly what this is doing. This is the first step to reclaiming our humanity!

  • Why is the LAST line before the jump, "Hit the jump for XYZ"? What self-aggrandizing shit.

  • OrehRatiug

Pretty retarded use of words there. Unless you actually believe it, then you're even dumber. So he doesn't want to clutter the front page with more boxes than needed, so that means he wants to increase his status?

That is the power of human technology.

How about a pure anti-proton beam? That worked pretty well in Star Trek.
