Batman Villains In The Style of 1940's Mugshots

This is a small series of Batman villains as they might have appeared in 1940's mugshots, all digitally painted by Canadian artist Jason Mark. I swear, people were such sharp dressers back in the day. Like, guys didn't leave the house without a suit on. Now? Now it's all sweat pants and athletic shorts. I miss the 40's. "You weren't alive." I told you, I'm a centuries old wizard. The chubby dumb blogger thing is just to throw off the Illuminati so they don't try to harvest me for my powers. I've lost a lot of sorcerer friends that way.

Hit the jump for John Doe (The Joker), The Penguin, and Mr. Freeze.

Thanks to lilco, who's hoping that new Great Gatsby movie coming out will encourage a throwback in fashion. I wouldn't hold my breath. Unless a dog farts, then it's a must.

  • No Catwoman/Selena Kyle?

If you like 1940's when everyone didn't dress like HoBos you should check out Art of Manliness (AoM). They're bringing "Manlee" back!

wasn't this on reddit like a week or two ago?

YES!!! Once something is on the internet, it may NEVER BE ON ANY OTHER INTERNETS EVER AGAIN!!!11!1!

  • I think the Joker would have opted for purple stripes & green bow tie ;)

  • These are truly awesome. Not some deviantART mediocrity. Truly unique and really cast these characters in a new light. Makes me want to see a batman movie set in the 40's, or a video game, even a TV series seems like it would work. They seem like actual people and not just an over the top caricature of a villain as they've recently become.

    Congrats to the artist.

if they're from the 20s, why are they dated from the 40s?

  • fashion is basically always a throwback. plus 20's/50's/80's are already back anyway
