Battlestar Galactica Cylon Themed Engagement Ring

cylon-ring-1.jpg

Because these days you risk being rejected and dying confused and alone if you propose with some plain-ass engagement ring, Redditor DisturbedRobot (not cool, bro) had a custom Battlestar Galactica Cylon ring made for his bride-to-be, Amy. And, because the ring had such a sweet sci-fi theme, she said yes. Plus, I don't know, maybe they love each other (I don't know them personally so I can't say).

When DisturbedRobot met his girlfriend at a Battlestar Galactica party, he knew he had to put a ring on it. So he came up with the idea of making a ring that looks like a Cylon and aimed for the stars. He used the gold / diamonds from his grandmother's ring, had his sketches modeled in Maya and then reforged by jewelry crafter Craig Elliott into the scifi based on his specifications.

Admittedly, it is a sharp looking ring. Not something I'd wear, but only because it's an engagement ring and dudes usually don't wear engagement rings. At least not until they're proposed to. I said, AT LEAST NOT UNTIL THEY'RE PROPOSED TO. No takers? Damn, maybe my mom was wrong -- maybe I'm not such a catch after all.

Hit the jump for a bunch more shots of the design and final product as well as a shot of the happy couple after she said yes and it's crazy because her name is Amy and she looks a LOT like Amy Jo Johnson (the Pink Ranger) but she's not, she's a different Amy. It's blowing my mind.

Thanks to Terry, whose wedding band is like part meteorite and he keeps telling me it gives him magic powers even though he and I both know the only power it's giving him is to one to believe his own lies. It's sad really.

good post, very stylish rings, It must be very memorable if using this as your engagement ring.

  • It's not even all that nice. it looks like a cheap lump of metal with a rock on it. :| Should have chosen a better design or maker so that the form is more defined and detailed.

Take, for example, the Stargate wedding band: http://www.geekologie.com/2012...

Or the Darth Vader lightsaber wedding ring: http://www.geekologie.com/2012...

The devil is in the details.

She looks more like a younger Lucy Lawless than Amy Jo Johnson.

    Either way, "score!"

His grandmother, meanwhile, is looking for her ring, which originally had Lorne Greene's face etched on the sides.

  • cabbo

Guy looks like a more creepy Ben from Lost.

    creepy stabby

  • He used his grandmother's ring? I feel like that should have held some sentimental value... like, great sentimental value.

  • Creative. I like it.
