50 Autonomous Quadrocopters Putting On A Light Show

This is a video of 50 autonomous quadrocopters putting on an airborne light show in Linz, Austria. It would have been the perfect place to be with a shotgun on the night of the performance.
Called "The Cloud in the Web," the show featured 50 AscTec Hummingbird quadrocopters all communicating via radio, programmed by a team formed from Ars Electronica Futurelab and Ascending Technologies GmbH. 50 is apparently the highest number of quadrotors that have synchronized with one another all at once, and it's definitely the highest number we've ever seen.
Wow, so you broke the record for the most synchronized quadrocopters -- congratulations. That's the sort of thing you're gonna come back to regret when you're on your deathbed. Deathbed, LOL -- we're all getting gunned down in the streets!
Hit the jump for a soundtrack that made me feel like I was dying on nitrous oxide.
Thanks to janiak, Stephanie and BCE, who would have blasted all those things out of the sky like professional skeet shooters. Me? I probably would have blown my own foot off.

Note: Video is after the jump because I'd prefer all the shitted-pants on the second page for easier cleanup. Q: What's cooler than an autonomous quadrocopter that can fly through windows and perch on vertical surfaces? A: Everything, including drowning. We don't know wheth... / Continue →

DARPA's new and improved cheetah robot is officially faster than even the fastest human, making running for your life futile unless you just want to die hot and sweaty. The world record for the 100 meter dash was set in 2009 by sprinter Usain Bolt, who averaged 23.35 mph dur... / Continue →

Seen here practicing its pews, an unmanned robotic death & destruction copter went rogue while flying around Washington DC. I suspect it was coming to my old apartment. Thank God I never forwarded my mail! A software error, combined with an unfortunate user action, led to a ... / Continue →
