Right Through Your Open Window: Autonomous Plane Barrel Rolls Through Obstacles Less Wide Than Wingspan

This is some video captured by a group of human-haters at MIT who have programmed a model airplane to be able to autonomously avoid obstacles by pitching and rolling itself to safety. Watching the thing move in real-time is nuts because that thing adjusts itself FAST. Way faster than I could ever react. No lie, I was riding my bike to the liquor store over the weekend and I saw this fire hydrant coming up from like, two blocks away. Still f***ing nailed it.
Hit the jump for the video.
Thanks to Rev Doc Dom, who's from the school of running straight through obstacles with the hope they break instead of trying to avoid them. HAHA -- I went to that school too!

Combing the power of swarm-bots and quadrocopters -- what could possibly go wrong? SPOILER: For humanity? Everything. And now autonomous swarm-bots are capable of producing a mobile landing platform for quadrocopters with no communication with each other or the copter. WTF!... / Continue →
