You Didn't Know?: The Easter Island Heads Have Bodies

May 14, 2012 / aliens would never make heads without the bodies -- come on!, body, eye candy, heads, mysteries, somebody needs to tell that guy that standing on somebody else's head is rude, stone, where's indiana jones and what does he have to say about this?, why is that guy standing on top of it and how'd he get up there

In incredibly old news (my favorite kind!), the giant stone heads on Easter Island have bodies. I'm sure a lot of you already knew that, because, like me, you had a subscription to National Geographic back when it was still socially acceptable to buy the magazine for the exotic nudes. For the rest of you, this might come as a surprise. But, come on -- did you actually think aliens would take the time to come to earth and carve giant stone heads and NOT give them bodies? That's ridiculous.

    I'm not surprised they have bodies as much as I want to know how and why they are barried that deep. 

  •  They would dig a large pit and then tip the whole thing into it, using the leverage from gravity to pull it upright.  Ancient Egyptians used the same trick for raising obelisks.  They would then build a large platform around the shoulders of the moai and sometimes stick a giant rock "hat" onto the head.

    The hats are the most impressive part, frankly.

    I don't think they were buried. I think that they were above the ground when built but over time, with soil shifting, it caused them to be buried. I'm not a scientist so I could be wrong.

  • No worries! This is pretty much the only place I read news. I had no idea that the heads had bodies. It's pretty cool to think about. Didn't find much information otherwise about them. Maybe they were used as ornamental tent-stakes for a massive race of vacationing aliens. Who knows.

    This is a great discovery, I look forward to seeing the rest of the excavation.

    This might also mean one o' the statues might be headless since there is a reference to it's head is located around the bottom of the ocean. (tee hee)
