See Wild Lions Up Close With The Beetle Cam

beetle-cam.jpg

Inb4 are you gonna finish that?

Photographer Burrand Lucas went and built an armored camera carrier called the Beetle Cam so he could photograph lions up close and personal. Aaaaaand this is the result. Burrand sells the Beetle Cams, which are basically remote controlled tanks and start around $2,000 (sans camera). Of course, if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to getting some up close and personal pics of lions you could buy one of my camera carriers. I call it The Gazelle Cam. "This...is just a bloody gazelle carcass." *kicks you out of Jeep* Wear it like a hoodie!

Hit the jump for a couple more shots from the cam, one OF the cam, a teaser for a Beetlecam documentar, and a link to Burrand's website.

LOL just like house cats, they are very curious. :3

  • ha, i think the second-to-last lion in the video is actually dead.

Pretty cool, up close pics without the danger. Most people don't realize that big cats act just like normal house cats.

  • Wow those pics are excellent!

  • Lions must be honey badgers because they didn't give a fuck about that guy wanting his camera back.

Humans are top of the food chain so all of the animals are afraid or submissive to us. But big cats like lions are also very  dominant, so human presence is like a threat to them (for the most part, if you're around them long enough then they get used to you) and if you show fear they will take you out. I don't think this guy was very afraid.

     Awesome pics though.

"Oh sweet, can't wait to test out this 2,000 plus $ RC car I bought."

--Lions proceed to grab and run off with 0ver 5 G's worth of equipment--

"Well... hmmmm, I guess I should have thought that through a bit better"

  • 1:45 -- So, it's pretty much an expensive, mobile scratch pad?

    Awesome results, though.

Why'd they have to call it beetlecam?  That reminds me of Michael Keatons weird grin and besides it doesn't even look like a beetle, tutrlecam would've been better because it's slow.

The music is epic though, I swear I was floating above my desk a mintue ago shooting sparkles of firey blisspoptarts at the universe.  So empowering....
