Cubelets: Modular Robotic Cube Toys (Swarmbots)

cubelets.jpg

Seen here looking suspiciously like the unmarked van driver I've seen circling the middle school, a Swedish dude with an undeniably addictive accent demonstrates a set of Cubelets, a new modular robotic toy set. *stomps through a whole swarm of them * RAWR, GODZILLA SHMEXY.

Each cube is designed to function in one of three ways: action, sensing and passive functions. Combining these variations of blocks together allows for the creation of a myriad of interesting robotic constructs, without any need for programming or robotics expertise.

There are currently 16 different cubes to combine, so the fun never ends! Yes, yes it does -- cubes are $25 APIECE, making them practically unobtainable. Sorry folks, looks like the fun ended before the party even began. "Who cares, your parties always turn out to be sausagefests anyways." Ugh -- I TOLD YOU TO BRING GIRLS.

Hit the jump for a worthwhile video of the Swedish fish here demoing the cubes.

Computerized toy blocks let kids build simple robots in seconds [dvice]

Thanks to Alan, who doesn't stick robots together until AFTER they're dead -- and then only in compromising positions. Haha, those two are touching each other's butts.

There are Comments.
  • this is soo 100% a Dutch guy reading this to all of you

  • I'd rather have one of these

  • My favourite part is that a starter pack of 6 costs $160 yet individual blocks cost $25 each... I would really hesitate before buying a product where the producers either try to take advantage of people who don't look into options, or are just horrible at math

They're pretty damn cool! I bet the Lego executives are hitting their head into walls for not thinking of this first.

  • Lego already did this, it's called Mindstorm, and being from Lego, it's hundreds of times better than these simple little shitty block robots, and I believe you can separately program each piece with a computer. I think the Lego executives are just fine in the Denmark castle's. (Also made of Lego's of course.)

I seriously doubt that this guy is Swedish. Maybe Dutch or Swiss.. I'm Swedish and that's NOT a normal Swedish accent.

  • dark_reaper_

    Swedish NO,  Dutch YESH.

  • Yeah, his accent is rather fake.

My favorite part is the bong on his table. "It's for inspiration!"

  • I believe that's a vial, or flask, or some other kind of sciency glass, to make it look like he had to mix chemicals to play with little robot cubes.

  • This is how it begins, just like in Robopocalypse.

  • Yeah, I'm with GW on this one. They look freaking amazing and would have been my obsession as a kid (heck, who am I kidding, I would probably obsess over them now). Then you go to the product site and find out they're only available in bundles of 6 for $160, plus shipping, and that doesn't even include the proprietary battery charger.

I'll wait until ThinkGeek licenses them for domestic sale and drops the price by 75%.
