Nov 28 2007Cell Phone Explodes in Korea, Killing Owner

phone-kills-man.jpg

A 33-year old construction worker was found dead in Cheongwon, Korea, apparently done in by his cell phone. He was found beside his excavator in a stone quarry by his coworkers, and doctors announced him DOA. "His cell phone was found in his shirt pocket with its battery severely melted and his chest burned and fractured." The company that makes the cell phone stated "We will fully cooperate with the police investigation, but we believe that the battery was very unlikely to explode. Our battery is wrapped in aluminum foil, so when there is an external shock, it should just melt, not explode.'' Of course, aluminum foil! It makes everything safe. Like the time I told my kid sister to jump off the roof with an aluminum foil helmet on. Of course she died, but it's not like her head exploded or anything.

UPDATE: It turns out the man's cell phone didn't kill him, his coworker Kwan accidentally backed over him with his excavator and made up the story to save himself. Didn't work, he's being charged with manslaughter.

This is fake and there is more to the story...

that sounds sketchy.....
one way or another, i don't think it'll do much good PRing Samsung XD
exploding phones.....honestly.

I dont' believe this story

Shit I was going to comment on the ad above the post. Stupid me, its not part of the story/post.

Yeah, I call BS on this one too. How did they manage to get two nearly identical before and after photos? (same light, same angle, same background) Unless the "before" pic is the front of the damaged phone.

IF the phone exploded, how is it still relatively intact?

Actually, it looks as though the picture is simply a front/back image and not a before/after.

I really hope this is BS.. cause I happen to have this phone, and well, Ive dropped it in water a couple of times, and Im pretty sure thats on the list of things that make phones explode. Where this list is, I have no idea.

I believe this story is kind of weird. How would a phone explode?? Even tho it looks like .. there has to be something missing to the story it self. I don't think it can e possible for a phone to explode unless you put something on it to make it explode. The phone looks melted to me.. like if someone burned it with fire. The picture shows the front and back of the phone .. and if the phone exploded than there wouldn't be any pieces together and look intact.
I don't believe the man got killed by his phone.. there had to be something else wrong with him or someone that could of did something to him... etc.
Also if the phone was burning on his shirt and his skin ... don't you think he would of felt it before it "killed him"? He would taken it out of his shirt and survived.
Someone had to of forced the burning phone onto his skin to actually kill him.
That's my thoughts....

somebody get snopes on this?

A man working as an EXCAVATOR is killed by an EXPLOSION and no one suspects the DYNAMITE he's working with? Geekologie, please don't post this horseshit.

Haha. Doobious was wrong. Capitals and all.

There is a recently started www.reversephonetrace.org that takes in hand this problem by using 4 criteria to analyze the mainly reliable and precise unlisted phone number reverse lookup services.
