May 3 2007Virtual dog-walking arcade game

Apparently there's a virtual dog-walking arcade game in Japan where you, uh, walk on a treadmill and pretend to walk a dog. Sounds almost as awesome as my virtual getting-raped-by-a-giant-tentacle-monster arcade game. They're both huge hits in Japan, but only one involves getting virtually raped by a giant tentacle monster.

now if they could just invent me a virtual girfriend...i'm so lonely.

Japan has everything, but this is just too funny

I think you have the wrong picture up. That looks like a virtual dog-humping-doghouse game.

Those sneaky japanese. Don't you know the simple act of walking a dog is actually ADVANCED, subconcious ninja training?! Well it is.

I'm currently working on a Sea World game. Basically, you have to train a life size, interactive replica of Shamu the whale, teach him various tricks, and perform a show in the end. The whole game is contained in a giant tank of sea water and you even get to wear a wetsuit! Your score is based on the crowd's reaction to your routine. Win over the crowd and you win the game. Make them upset, and robot Shamu eats you......for humiliating him.

I'm still toying around with some other ideas, you know, for the LOSING aspect of the game

It must be good, they put hand rails on the thing and they look pretty used.. Maybe it's a combination of walking the dog and being raped by the tentacle monster... you walk the dog, the tentacle monster stalks you from the wooded area and waits for your most vulnerable moment.

I live in Tokyo and I can attest to the fact that despite the well worn appearance of the handles, the game does indeed, suck. I also never see anyone using it. Far more popular these days is Sega's 'Lets go Jungle'! A game involving a SUV type compartment where you sit and shoot giant bugs while on your crazy Thailand jungle safari. It comes equipped with the oh so PC jungle 'guides' who scream things at you like 'You no talking!' and other such things and the hosts are two typical backpackers with singha t-shirts and dreads. Its great.

why? Are they trying to make video games more realistic?

Wow. I would SO play that... :-)

I'm currently enjoying imagining beckyg SO playing that. Liberal application of artistic license and free will, and you've a winner.

Wow ..... the creator of that would love my virtual lightswitch game

I almost think the Japanese invent these things solely for the sake of trying to make us to the "wuttehfuk" face all the time.

So is that kind of like an X-rated Maniac Mansion? 'Cuz I would so play that.

In fact, I think we might have a female Brownian/Papageno hybrid on our hands. With Brownian's idioms/olects and Papageno's self-deprecating mystery and tastes we might even have one to rival the mighty Wally, Lord Megabest of Ultrawin.

HOW MANEY OURS IN A WEEK, MATES ??

so do they make you pick up the shit too?

1st poster- yeah the japanese already made virtual girlfriends, u should look one up lolz

Boosh: "Rip off of this" (rentadog)

The Japanese game was out in 2002.

Parallel invention does happen.

I've actually seen one of these not too long back, i was sooo tempted to have a go, but i opted for keeping at least some of my dignity instead.
